"Inside Art" 3-D Interactive Art by Ginger Lorakeet - November 2011

Ginger Lorakeet was born in Australia but now lives in Arizona. She works out of her home on her computer and uses Photoshop to edit her artwork for SL. She spent most of her later years at school in Art and Design. During that time, she won awards for photography, design, and graphics. Since finishing school, she's continued creating art, both in and out of Second Life.

In SL she takes online art and merges it with SL animations to create "Inside Art", the name of her interactive 3D layered artwork. The SL Avatar right clicks on the artwork and chooses SIT for an immersive experience, becoming part of the artwork!!!

The idea was inspired by a technique she learned from a good friend and builder in SL.Come "immerse" yourself in her artwork the month of November, at the OZLAND Art Gallery. Make sure you take home the FREE gift she has made too!

The OZLAND Art Gallery welcomes back Alba2 Rossini.

When she last exhibited in OZLAND back in June of 2009 she only had 14 of the Major Arcana cards painted now 2 years later she will be exhibiting all 22!

Alba lives and works in Torino, Italy. She has spent some time in the United States and Venezuela, and her time there has influenced her vision of color and composition. She prefers oil painting because of the stickiness and brightness of the medium.

Oil painting also allows her to play with brightness and volumes. Her Tarot Cards, on board, are excellent examples of how she has mastered her art.

Aria's Daydreams Digital Artwork by Ariadenise Bellic at the OZLAND Art Gallery

Ariadenise Bellic lives and works out of her home in the USA. She considers herself an "artsy" person and enjoys music as well as drawing. She went to college for three years for vocal perfomance but has no formal training in drawing. She is totally self taught.

Working from her computer she uses Corel Painter and a mouse to create her Digital artwork. Her inspiration? "Just whatever pops into her brain!"

Right now she is selling her work ONLY in SL, but she would like to print and sell her work someday in RL .

"Meta-Landscaping with Friends" Quilts by Karalee Larsson and Zhu Juran at the OZLAND Art Gallery

Karalee Larsson and Zhu Juran met in SL the spring of 2007 and were original members of the Quilters in SL group. Kara and Zhu have worked on several joint RL quilt projects and have exhibited on numerous occasions in SL.

Karalee Larsson appreciates anything design related from photography and fiber arts to architecture, interior design and fashion. She enjoys taking photographs and manipulating them in Photoshop; she also has a passion for creating quilts. After focusing on family and a career in libraries for numerous years, Karalee has recently been able to focus more on photography and on quilt making.

Zhu Juran originally came to SL to look into virtual quilting, and almost immediately met Kara. Being completely new to virtual worlds, her learning curve was steep to say the least. She is still learning new things in SL and hopelessly addicted to it! She has been making quilts IRL for over 15 years.

Their feature quilts, the Meta-Landscape series, were the next logical step for both: creating a RL quilt from a virtual landscape which was created entirely in SL and not altered outside of it.

Riali Sandalwood "Whimsical Critters" at the OZLAND Art Gallery July 2011

Riali Sandalwood comes from an artistic and musical family in which she was always encouraged to nurture her innate artistic abilities through drawing, painting and pottery. She lives and works as an Art/Creative Director out of Mumbai, India. She has a special love of terracotta sculpture. Riali also channeled her love for music into classical Indian carnatic music through formal vocal training. Her pictures have the vibrant colors and bold lines of woodblock prints, from which she has drawn inspiration, and are reminiscent of the fine illustrations used in high quality children's books. Her shapes also remind the viewer of the simple bold shapes associated with pottery. "Thar's Gold in Them Thar Pixels" Fractal Artwork by Leonie Szczepanski

Leonie Szczepanski specializes in fractal artwork and she's been making them for the past twelve years. Essentially a fractal (google it for masses more info) is a formula which describes a natural object. Some examples are seashells, leaves, flowers, trees and cityscapes.

Using fractal graphic generators and graphics programs she creates images, then displays them as paintings. She also puts the textures on practical things as well. She found that she had already been doodling fractals before she'd even heard of them which was in the early 1990's!

Making colourful and interesting pictures is most important to Leonie. Sometimes she chooses names that are pertinent to her at the moment but usually they are fairly random! It's up to the individual viewer to decide what they envision in them. Take your cue from Rorschach inkblots!

Sandralee Palianta lives in Arizona where she loves to draw with Sharpie Markers and has even been accepted by the Sharpie Pen company to be in their "Sharpie Showcase" on their corporate website. She is proficient with all major graphics software programs and even enjoys Photography.

Her work in SL includes an exhibit at the Gateway Galleries. She has created paintings that are her own interpretations of the symbols that are part of theme The Perfect Form in Star Journey. She depicts the energies of the Star of Austerity and Star of Independence, also other symbols including The Field and The Fog. Her artwork is cleverly executed with Sharpie markers and many with the bold use of color.

"Crossing Thresholds" Acrylic Collages by Trill Zapatero - March 2011

Trill's paintings are travel collages or maps of journeys. She painted them while she was living in China, India and Malaysia. Viewing them might be as much like reading maps as looking at paintings, perhaps similar to watching animations. The images suggest stories of heroic adventures or waking dreams. The imagery is influenced by the local landscapes and visual cultures of Asia. The imagery also comes from books she'd been reading as well as other researched materials such as magical symbols and universal archetypes. The paintings are as much about dream journeys, and flights of the imagination as they are about the actual places they were painted. The process of painting itself is a kind of travelogue.

Sometimes she sets out with a few photos, images or ideas in mind. At other times,she starts without much of an idea. She thinks about the paper and the textures. She choses a color; maybe apply it as a glaze. She also likes to paint thickly and scrape paint off or wipe it away. She works in layers of a variety of elements. Images and scenes often appear in the process and she allows that to happen or she googles images and symbols and follow the surfing process to get more information. Sometimes she uses her own photos and either paints them or collages the printed paper- which she can then tear or glaze over or cut out neatly around an edge or contour. She's interested in ways to make a picture and create a story.

Photo-collage, Visual Poetry by Shugaaa Rhapsody in OZLAND

Shugaaa Rhapsody (from the UK) has always been fascinated by artists and their many different styles and mediums. Her Art teacher always said Shugaaas' work was never predictable, soft pencil sketches one day and striking colourful paints the next. For many years due to work and Family commitments Shugaaa put creativity to one side, but since coming to SL has found that passion once again taking on a new digital format. Still now, although using photoshop rather than traditional methods, it very much depends on the mood of the day as to the style of the picture emerging. Most of Shugaaas work is untitled, this is a conscious decision to let the viewer of the piece determine their own story behind it.

KenpoKarate Yakubu's OCEANIC EXPLORATIONS Exhibit at the OZLAND Art Gallery

KenpoKarate Yakubu (aka Anthony F. Verburgt in RL) has been an artist since childhood starting with coloring books at a very young age. Having been raised around the influence of his father who was also an artist and told him that anyone who can master drawing the basic shapes of a triangle, square, ball and ribbon considering shadows, reflected light, direct source light and make a rock look hard and water look wet could draw anything. Also if one could draw the human body using these principles then that person can be considered a real artist.

This lead to his becoming a composite sketch artist for the Sheriff's Department where he worked for over 36 years having his sketches lead to the conviction of many criminals as well as forensic crime scene sketches.

His portraits include those of SL avatars and he enjoys giving them life. He is now spending his time doing the art that he loves as he experiments with colors and themes. His preference of medium is oil paint, but he believes in using whatever mediums, supports and methodologies to express his feelings and art at the time. As far as styles of painting, he spent many years developing his style of realism. Now he does his art as he feels at the time, and has no particular style. each work being an expression of love and visual representation.

Tegan Jenvieve's Halloween exhibit "Dark Beauty" at The OZLAND Art Gallery

Tegan Jenvieve is free spirit in real life and second life in search of emotions and experiences that move her soul. Between intuition and technique she works in different mediums including digital media, photography, words, and prims to show the viewer what lies in between the obvious and mundane. It is the search for that unknown that drives her to try out new techniques, take risks, and explore all that SL can offer. She holds a masters in Education and Bachelors in Math, and is proud mom of 3 out-of-the-box kids who are living proof that magic does indeed exist.

Tegan Jenvieve's Halloween exhibit "Dark Beauty" examines the intense contrasts and images on one moonlit Halloween night. All the images in Black and White harken back to the days when textures and composition alone, not special effects, could transport you to far off places and evoke deep thoughts.

"Desert Thunder" photography by Cowboy Darbyshire - OZLAND Art Gallery - September 2010

Cowboy Darbyshire lives in southern Arizona and has been chasing storms for 12 years.

His work has been featured on national TV and on several syndicated channels. He also has multiple storm photographs in various publications primarily in Asia and the South Pacific.

Lightning photography is Cowboy's specialty and his passion for chasing storms at almost any hour of the night or day has been rewarded on several occasions with unique photographs from a variety of places in the desert southwest.

He uses a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi and two primary lenses, a 28-80mm and a 70-300mm for all his photographs. His "trademark" photographs are taken during daylight hours... which are notoriously difficult to capture.

Van Caerndow's Western Paintings on Glass at the OZLAND Art Gallery - August 2010

"I paint on glass as a window to the worlds in my imagination"

Van Caerndow has developed a style of painting on glass (mostly miniatures) using a French water based craft paint called Pebeo, which is designed for glass and ceramics. After painting is done he bakes the glass for 20 minutes at 325 degrees. From these finished works he signs, and numbers Giclee prints at up to 400% of the actual size.

His subject matter varies from sports to travel to portraits, but is dominated by his fascination with the American West.

All his pieces on display in SL have been painted in the last five years. Not only are most of the originals (On glass) available for sale in RL, but he also offers the giclee prints for purchase by contacting Phil Strang at houseofstrang@aol.com.

Jadyn Firehawk Photography - Christmas in July Exhibit at the OZLAND Art Gallery

Jadyn Firehawk is a professional geographer & amateur photographer. Born in the Philippines she now lives in Texas.

She believes the mind behind the camera is more important then the quality of the camera. Her photos are taken with a Canon PowerShot point-n-shoot digital camera. She's tried a better camera but keeps reverting to her trusty point-n-shoot. She's concluded it's better to have a small camera in her purse at all times, than a fancy camera at home when she needs to capture a spontaneous shot the moment it catches her eye.

Living with bipolar disorder has given an intensity to her vision of the way she sees the world. Most people see things in pictures, she sees pictures in things. She loves to photograph things in daily life "as is" without any staging. Once she started looking for "as is" pictures, the world around her got more interesting and beautiful.

Satu Gustafson Doodles at the OZLAND Art Gallery - June 2010

Satu Gustafson lives and works in the North West of Germany. Her artwork is all about experimentation with different materials, textures, media and techniques. Though her preferred medium is acrylic paints she has discovered black and white doodling as a form of art that is especially striking when imported into SL.

Satu is fascinated by colour and contrasts, simple shapes that carry powerful emotionality. So she often uses different shades of one single colour using a painter's knife to shape the pastous paint allowing for dynamic, curved shapes and forms. The black and white inks take this a step further, taking out the colour and working with very basic shapes and patterns.

By bringing her art into Second Life, she would like to make people curious, inspire them and encourage them to just take whatever material they can find in ther RLs and express themselves artistically.

Josina Burgess' Acrylic Bronze Artwork at the OZLAND Art Gallery - May 2010

Josina Burgess studied at famous Art Schools in America and graduated in illustration, advertisement, free painting and drawing, then decided to become a singer.

During her years of traveling as a singer she continued painting and drawing. Her work has many facets. Josina uses mixed techniques she has developed herself. With acrylics she has developed a very personal style. Abstracts, flowers and landscapes are recognizable with her free expression.

The exhibit this month features Josina's RL Acrylic Gold Bronze on Canvas and some painting that have been reworked into SL. Her paintings are "beautiful", not boring, and always a pleasure to look at.

Faustine Pau's Second Life Fantasy Artwork - April 2010

Living in the south of France, Faustine Pau has loved drawing ever since she was a little girl. She says she is "an artist in her soul." She loves meeting new people, music and even writes poetry.

Having no formal art training she is self taught and works with Photoshop 7 to create magical Second Life artwork. She is very good with colors and her artwork is the dreams of children, faerylike and full of fantasy.

SkyBlue loves water and only paints with watercolour. The light, flow and transparency of the medium fascinates him. He's been an artist for over 20 years, and his art has spread out to clients in England, Germany, Holland, Switzerland... and now SL.

Maria Binder's Enkaustik Artwork at the OZLAND Art Gallery - February 2010

Living in Germany with her husband and 2 children, Maria Binder was searching the internet one day and read about the ancient art of Enkaustik wax painting... A week later she had all the tools and was experimenting for herself. That was 20 years ago! She still enjoys creating and exploring new arts. It's her RL hobby! Now a days with the help of her computer and various software programs, she creates other kinds of art too...including fractals, photoimpressions, and more.

Enkaustik-wax painting is an old Egypt and Greek art that is over 3000 years old. In the middle ages it was put aside for oil painting. Today the art is revived with molten wax colors and electric heating tools.

ALEXANDRA MENSING's Interactive Kaleidoscope Lightworks Art Exhibit in OZLAND

Kaleidoscopes have always facinated Alexandra Mensing and she's been making them since her first day of building in SL. Although her RL home in New England showcases a small collection, in SL she's created hundreds. She loves the combination of randomness and fixed reflections and the balance of science of optics and the esoteric beauty of shifting colors.

Since that first day of building, in 2006, her "scopes" have gone from classic prim to sculpty, from simple scripting, to orchestrating various movements of the textures and the prims randomly. Try touching them to see how they interact with you.

Textures are a big part of her scopes. She finds inspiration in RL and SL from telescope imagery and microscopy to fine art from the masters... she's even used coastlines from the google earth maps, for each kaleidoscope has between 12 to 50 different textures in them!

Alexandra will debut a whole NEW collection of Kaleidoscopes for the month of January at the OZLAND Art Gallery... and she's made a special gift for everyone who visits.

Seleuma Snowpaw - OZLAND Visiting Artist - November 2009

Seleuma Snowpaw was born in Angola and moved, with his family, to Portugal to avoid war and start a new life. As he studied in high school he was shown all kinds of art... He found that he really liked drawing tribal images. He would practice drawing at his friends homes, painting helmets and tattoos... then eventually started painting on t-shirts.

All this practicing lead him to Celtic knotwork that he found in the U.K and during his trips around Europe. Mixing tribal/celtic knotwork basics, with surreal art-form, he uses pencil, black pen and some water color pencils to create a new way to see these traditional drawings. In RL he paints these new original designs on t-shirts by hand! But here in SL we are lucky to see his work as wall hangings as well as t-shirts.

Lou Mannock - OZLAND Visiting Artist - October 2009

Illustrator, Louie Mann (AKA Lou Mannock) born in Cali, Colombia came to the States at a young age and in high school won the "Hanely" award for best art student! He studied fashion illustration at the 'Fashion Institute of Technology' in New York where he now lives/works.

Louie experimented with different techniques & mediums, like the stylish use of comic book art but now concentrates only on pen & ink illustrations & photoshops his work to bring out their most classical sense.

With Louie's artwork, the observer realizes that his pieces invoke a sense of mysticism & spiritual adventure. They becomes like 'Alice' tumbling down a dark rabbit hole that deeply portrays Louie's inner psyche & shows his passion & love for painting. Louie Mann's art is honest storytelling at its best that fires up emotions with his many controversial masterpieces.

Hermes Kondor - OZLAND Visiting Artist for September 2009

Inspired by works of the grand masters of French photography, Hermes Kondor began his career as photographer & photojournalist. Photography to Hermes has always been an artistic expression that reinvents the tridimensional reality from a two dimensions image.

Since working regularly with digital photography he found Photoshop a powerful tool for his artistic creation. He began trying the manipulation of his photos in another creative process - he discovered "Digital Art". This new artform lets him transforming his normal pictures, into art objects full of sense and artistic content.

As his life grew spirituality, he felt the need to explore deeper into his own relation with the Sacred, and to discover other dimensions of Life which lead him to the path of his most recent artistic project - "The Traveler" - a series of 20 pictures which represent his inner travel, across the World, to reach the Primordial Light, and which is on display the month of September at the OZLAND Art Gallery.

The OZLAND Art Gallery welcomes Stephs Magic, a RL Photographer.

Living and working in Germany, Stephs Magic has always enjoyed expressing his creative side in many forms and facets, ranging from photography, computer generated imagery and digital painting, to being an amateur magician.

The "Big Apple" is the subject for his first B&W SL photographic exhibition. The urban landscape of New York City is its inspiration, and the theme is contrasts: old/new; light/dark; soft/hard; artificial/organic; curved/rectangular – where ever you look in this set of images you find dichotomies. He shows us a city that seeks to harmonise these contrasting elements in its open spaces and public landscapes.

Balancing the stark B&W contrasts of the Urban Cityscapes Stephs introduces his Garden Macro collection, which shows nature in its colourful splendor from unusual angles and distances.

Josina Burgess, OZLANDs Artist of the Month for July 2009

Josina Burgess, OZLANDs Artist of the Month for July, has studied at Famous Artists Schools in America then decided to become a ...singer..

During her years of traveling as a singer she continued painting and drawing. Her work has many facets. Feelings and impressions, sometimes subtle, but also powerful and above all the use of bright colors are specific for her art. Non-figurative, abstract as well as figurative paintings, explosions of color, gold and bronze, memories and feelings are telling their story.

Josina uses mixed techniques she developed herself. With acrylics she has developed a very personal style. Abstracts, flowers and landscapes are recognizable with her free expression. Josina's exhibit in OZLAND is featuring her Gouache Paper Artwork... Gouache is an opaque watercolor paint that can be applied in solid colors. Composition, technique, colors and shape have given an extra dimension to her paintings.

Josina likes her paintings to be "beautiful", not boring, and always a pleasure to look at.

Alba2 Rossini - OZLAND's Visiting Artist for June 2009

June's exhibition features paintings based on the motifs found in Tarot Cards by Alba2 Rossini. The originals are painted in oil on board. At present there are 14 paintings in the series, the latest being completed just before the exhibition.

Here is what Alba has to say about herself.

Hello, in SL I am known as Alba2 Rossini, Alba is my name in the art world. I live and work in Turin, where I completed my studies at the Art School and the Academy of Fine Arts.

I spent part of my life between the United States and Venezuela. During my stay in Venezuela, I worked as a designer in the graphic and advertising department of a large North American company. This experience along the tropical environment influenced lot about my vision of color and composition and were significant in my artistic maturation.

I paint mostly with oil colors because I like the stickiness and brightness of this medium, so that I can play with brightness and volume, but I do not disdain other media such as acrylic or pastels
